Client: Boulder-Dushanbe Sister Cities. The city of Dushanbe, Tadzhikistan, offered Boulder a lavish gift of a chaikhona,a traditional community center and teahouse. This piece promoted the fundraising for shipping the parts to Boulder (including hand-carved cedar posts, elaborate ceiling panels and handcrafted ceramic tiles); selecting and establishing a construction site; and hosting craftspeople from Tadzhikistan to assist in the building's assembly. Today the teahouse serves as a bustling, successful restaurant and gathering place for downtown Boulder.
